The Card Counter is basically a movie that features a person who is highly involved in the gambling industry. The lead role of William “Tell” Tellich, which was played by Oscar Isaac, is a gambler who was once became a military interrogator. Through card counting, Tellich is actually making real money from playing in casinos. This generally allows him to live a life full of peacefulness and solitude.

But, here’s the twist! Tellich has a deepest secret. He tortured a prisoner in Abu Ghraib and, together with his colleague, he was convicted for doing that. Gambling is the bonding moment of Tell and his colleague after committing the incident.
